Who We Are

Our Story

Our story began with 2 men and a vision.  Joe and I began to dream about a different kind of church.  Both of us have various church backgrounds and experiences, but one of the things that we noticed about Siouxland is that it seemed to us that the existing churches were stuck in a time warp....

On the outside it was 2003, but on the inside it was as if you traveled back in time 100 years!  The churches were full of people way older than us, sitting in uncomfortable rooms called “sanctuaries” on uncomfortable seats called “pews”, listening to music that most people under 50 can’t relate to and a sermon that doesn’t seem to have relevance to life today.

We bagan to think that there should be a church for younger people who want to learn about God and grow spiritually, but don’t want to jump through a bunch of religious hoops to get there.

In March of 2003, Mick, his wife Catherine and Joe Barnes began to pray about starting a new church, a different kind of church. A church that would reach out to people with little or no church experience, or who had become disenchanted with church; a new church for people who had given up on church, but not on God.

After a year of preparation, REC held it’s first service on April 4, 2004 at the Carmike Cinemas in the Southern Hills Mall. 140 people showed up at the first service and the adventure began.

During the first 18 months REC saw tremendous growth and had to change locations twice, but by August of 2005, it became very obvious that the theater was simply not big enough to hold the people attending. After seeking for a more permanent home, we finally moved into our newly renovated location at the Hillcrest Center on our 2nd Anniversay and God has blown our doors off. In a little less than three years, God has built REC from 6 families to over 300 people a week in attendance. Yea God!!

From day one, the vision has been to reach out to those who don’t attend church, those who have been burned out by church, and those who have a passion for a different type of church through LOVING GOD and LOVING PEOPLE...and having a BLAST doing it!

God has been very good to us, and he is moving in remarkable ways.  As we continue to grow, who knows what our next step will be as we continue to reach out to those who don't know Christ or have a church home.

For now, we meet every Sunday at 9:00 am and 10:30 am at The Hillcrest Plaza across from the Sgt Floyd Monument on HWY 75.

So…that’s the story God has given us so far.  I invite you to share your story with us, and to become a part of ours’.  It’s a wild ride, so if you choose to get on – buckle up!
